For the past 19 years, the last Sunday of May, the wineries of the Wine Tourism Movement have opened their doors to the public, encouraging direct contact of wine lovers with wine producers.

The interest in the event has grown significantly from year to year and has attracted increasing attention of tourists and residents, especially intrigued by possibility of making an experience of great cultural and human value.

The Wine Tourism Movement aims with ever greater conviction to spread the idea of the great day of celebration of wine and its territories, expanding Cantine Aperte to other countries, Europe and outside Europe, into those countries with a strong tradition in wine making.

Duemilavini is the guide to the wines of Italy published by Bibenda curated by the Association of Italian sommelier. It is for professionals and communicators of the industry, to people interested and passionate about wineand is designed for those who wish to consult a professional and at the same time simple text.
 

 Ubaldo Rosi is our classic method sparkling wine worked manually in our cellar by skilled professionals which embodies the tradition of our cooperative in the sparkling wine making. In fact, the first award received by Colonnara for a classic method dates back to 1982. Ubaldo Rosi is not new to these awards since it was assigned the 5 Grappoli already three times: the previous awards were in 2008 for the 2001 vintage and in 2005 for the vintage 1997.

This tradition is renewed again this year thanks to this important recognition which is for us source of great satisfaction crowning the efforts made every day to produce high quality wines that are able to satisfy even the most demanding customers.

]]> Sun, 25 Mar 2012 00:00:00 GMT 28/05/2011 - The Disgorgement during Cantine Aperte 2011 At the Open Wineries 2011 event, Colonnara’s guests have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the so called Degorgement (or disgorgement), a true ritual in the working of the classic method sparkling wines.

When there were not modern equipments, the technicians carried the process trough the ‘dégorgement à la volée’: the bottle was uncorked and due to the pressure, it splashed out the remaining lees formed under the cap, then promptly Insert the stopper the bottle.

Today at Colonnara, this process is still carried out manually for producing our great classic method Verdicchio sparkling wines. In fact, each bottle is manually cleaned by its lees through the so called remuage and through the manual disgorgement, after having frozen the sparkling wine and the leess contained in the neck of the bottle. Once opened, this cylinder of ice with the lees is ejected thanks to the high pressure of the bottle and the product is definitely clean.

At this point the wine is topped with a wine and sugar syrup (liqueur d'expedition, the secret recipe of each classic method sparkling wine). The amount of sugar determines the organoleptic characteristics of the sparkling wine, which is then closed with the traditional natural cork.

Since then, the Tùfico has been a huge success thanks to its particular characteristics. It is indeed a wine that fully reflects the soil from which it comes: of marine origin, and mostly sandy, which consists of arenaceous elements that are locally called 'tufo', hence the name of the wine. Subject of numerous awards, it is one of the most unique and successful expression of one of the most ductile Italian grape varieties. The new bottle and the new label are in fact chose for emphasising the importance of this particular product. We are therefore confident that the 2009 vintage will be able again to impress the fans in taste and elegance.

]]> Fri, 02 Dec 2011 00:00:00 GMT 25/06/2011 - Cuprese 2001: the best "Fresco di Grotta" In June the 25th 2011, a technical committee of winemakers, journalists and industry specialists have awarded our Cuprese as the best wine during the initiative called “Fresco di Grotta” (Cave of Cool)


"Fresco di Grotta" is a project that offers the opportunity to combine a visit to Europe's largest underground complex in Genga (Province of Ancona) with the discovery of the Verdicchio wine in its own terroirs.

The fourth edition of " Fresci di Grotta " consisted in a ceremony where the media focused on the recovery, by cavers,  of 13 different Verdicchio wines placed two years earlier to rest in a ravine located within the large monumental Cave of the wind. In the caves, the temperature is constant all year around (12-13°C) as well as it is the humidity (95%).

Later,  a committee of journalists and wine experts tasted the different wines recovered and expressed a unanimous verdict:  Cuprese was the best Verdicchio wine among all the others.

Another confirmation of the longevity of this amazing product.

Colonnara was selected to participate also this year at the Merano Wine Festival 2011. This year, the wines selected are the Nero dei Dori and Pecorino.

Merano Wine Festival was founded in 1992 and has for years been synonymous of quality. In fact, during the event some of the greatest Italian wines are introduced to the public. This year, the 20th, the event will be held in November from the 4th to the 7th, as usual in the elegant Kurhaus.

Nero dei Dori is our Rosso Conero Doc, a noble wine made from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes. Pecorino is part of the wines included in our Native collection. This year, in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary, on Monday the tasting of old vintages will be proposed and Colonnara is pleased to present the Cuprese 1991, one of our great wines always so successful in such kind of tastings.

Listed among the great sparkling wines from regions of Italy famous worldwide for their tradition and quality of products, our sparkling wine Verdicchio DOC Ubaldo Rosi, is described as "the Ferrari of sparkling wines made in Marche."

"Limited amount of bottles -says the guide- put on the market only on excellent vintages, great evolutionary potential. The 2005 version is very fine, balmy, whispered in his 'chiaroscuro' and deep taste."

Not to mention that, conludes ironically the guide to highlight the extraordinary relationship between quality and price of the product, "fortunately, the price is not the same as the famous Maranello-built cars."

For Colonnara this is satisfaction for the work aimed at creating products that has long been ranked among the leaders of central Italy in the production of quality sparkling.
